Well this weekend definitely had its fare share of "firsts" and I couldn't have enjoyed them more. As I stated in the previous post, I was visiting Colorado to see my best friend Kimmee. This was the first time I have seen her since she had moved and my first time in Boulder, CO...so here is a little recall of my weekend there (which including a lot of firsts!!)
We started off the day visiting her friends at the bank and then going to Estes Park. It wasn't my first time in Estes Park, but I hadn't really explored it. We walked up and down the streets in the cute little shops...and it was the first time I saw a fur vest made from recycled water bottles...apparently that is Colorado for ya. haha. Then we spent the night eating/drinking at a bar across from her apartment and we went to a CU Women's basketball game. This was the first time I went to a college sporting event in a different state...pretty exciting right? I definitely need to come back for their football games haha.
Now on to the more exciting firsts...
So Kimmee lives right next to Chautauqua Park which has a lot of hiking trails...and so of course we thought it would be great to put the hiking sticks her dad bought her to use and go on a hike (please keep in mind the only other people using hiking sticks were at least 60+, but we were not ashamed!) and trust me the hiking sticks saved out lives. I am no professional hiker, so hiking shoes is not something I can say I own in my shoe collection, therefore I endured the hike in some regular ol' beat up tennis shoes. This probably would have been fine except that it does snow in Colorado, and because of the higher elevation on part of the hike and the fact that some areas don't get much sun, the ground was covered in snow. And this was fresh pow pow either...it was slick and icy snow. Which only means one thing, my graceful self was slippin and sliding everywhere. Thankfully I never actually did a complete fall - the hiking stick literally saved my life. Hiking in the snow was definitely a first...and quite and experience at that. Next time I try that I need to make sure to have the proper equipment and to not forget my inhaler so I am not winded every 5 feet. Let me tell you the elevation is a killer!
We then came back and showered and we went to the mall near her house that she used to work at. We saw Silver Linings Playbook for the first time, and it was fabulous!! Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper did an amazing job. Definitely recommend seeing it!
Anyways...then we went out on Pearl street Saturday night. This outing definitely gave me many firsts. We started off at the Boulder Cafe, which was awesome because its happy hour from like 4 till close so all the appetizers and drinks were half off....for appetizers we had fondue. It was the first time I tried it and I am addicted, it was absolutely delicious!! Then from there we moved on to the bars. The bar scene there is cool, much different that Long Beach, very "chill" atmosphere. It was my first time being to a bar that is underground (went to a couple of those)...and it was my first time playing darts/massive jenga/and fuseball in a bar. This might be normal...but none of the bars I have ever been to have this so I was pretty stoked. We moved on from the more relaxed bar to this clubby bar they have...Absinthe House. If the name didn't give it away...the had absinthe, and I tried it. Not a fan...taste terrible, like black liquorice. yuckkk. But they did have a bar on the roof which was pretty awesome. This was also my first experience of having to wear multiple layers when going out...usually I just bear the pain of the slight chill in Southern California while waiting in line, but you can not do that there. You would literally freeze. I had to make sure I had a warm jacket and gloves on when we went out...and how convenient all the places we went had coat hangers (I guess that would make sense in a place that snows haha)
Then Sunday was basically all about food, and exploring Pearl St. We started off the day eating a The Buff...this was my first time eating at a place that has been recognized on TV...apparently man vs food taped an episode there! Pretty awesome...and the food lived up to expectation :) Then we took a gander down Pearl street...definitely and eclectic mix of stores. Found the best vintage store (really wish they had that closer to me!), got a YAY! magnet (famous in Colorado), and explored the most fascinating kitchen, appliance, and toy stores. It was awesome. Not to mention, as we wandered up and down the streets we were entertained by some of Boulder's finest. Apparently it is a thing there to give off the vibe that they are homeless, when in reality they have a decent amount of money. We saw full on bands playing, a woman singing which sounded more like squawking, a girl making bracelets along with many other things. It was quite interesting. We then went to Westminster to eat at Cracker Barrel, first time eating there!! I have heard about this place from numerous people, but I have never been...so you can imagine how stoked I must of been. Can't get better than a massive helping of fried southern food. It was awesome. My dinner consisted of coleslaw, mac and cheese, fried apples, chicken fried chicken, cornbread, and lemonade to drink...so I was IN HEAVEN. Seriously, I have never eaten so fast in my life...it was so good. I look forward to returning to that delicious place.
After we over indulged ourselves in southern goodness we went back out to Pearl so i could experience a few more of the bars before I left. They were very similar to the first bar we went to on Saturday night, and I have to say I really digged them. The best part was, when we were playing darts, I threw my first bulls-eye!! How frickin awesome is that for a first? haha.
Overall it was a great weekend!! I went to visit a new place and tried tons of new things! I was able to see one of my best friends and see her new life and meet her new friends. I am so happy for her, and this definitely was the best weekend of 2013 so far!! I look forward to visiting her again, and experiencing even more firsts there :)
I will posts pics from the weekend tomorrow - too tired for now....still exhausted from the weekend haha.
